In the Jubilee Year of 2000, Fátima sought not only to hold religious and cultural events but also to mark the occasion in a tangible way.
The text “I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved (John 10:9)” serves as the inspiration for the portico, which consists of two white concrete walls, symmetrical to the axis of the enclosure, spaced apart from one another and thus forming the “gate.” On the south side of these walls are pools of water with underwater lighting, symbolizing the purification that precedes the rite of entry.
The intention was thus to provide a discreet setting for an entrance ritual, offering pilgrims a moment of pause and transition that would capture their attention and create space for an understanding of the Jubilee’s deeper meaning.
