Architecture is a setting of relationships – intimate relationships in the most private space, community relationships in circumscribed spaces, and public relationships in the urban environment – and the design of this setting defines how people understand it.
We associate with the village an image, a scale, a way of life, and a rhythm reflected in a spatial structure animated by the clarity of its response to daily needs, full of models and solutions despite the limited repertoire of materials and the permanence of construction processes and systems.
The proposal for Aldeia da Roca is based on the spatial structure of the region's villages, still legible in some cases even when already absorbed into a broader context, and seeks to organize spaces according to the level of relationships expected to be provided in each one.
As in villages, the aim is for the 'public' space to be the point of contact for all houses and the origin of the relationship with the clearly defined private space, where each house is recognized and identified by its unique position and volumetric composition, assuming a harmony recognized by a common architectural language.
